Indecision is a Decision

Hello Reader, Our patients can’t—and don’t—make good choices unless they have good information. Even then, many delay taking action for years. You might wonder, “What are they thinking?” The problems are obvious to us, so why aren’t they being proactive? They have their reasons, and we’ve all heard them:
Whatever the reason, problems often progress until an emergency forces treatment—usually a root canal, extraction, or worse. And while we think it, we don’t say, “I told you so.” Emergencies typically address symptoms, not root causes, yet many patients stay locked in this cycle of “crisis care” for years. Too often, this path leads to partial or complete edentulism—the nuclear holocaust of dentistry—nearly always avoidable. The punch line: Indecision is a decision, and it’s costly. None of us wants these outcomes for our patients. Sometimes emergencies are the only chance we get to shake them out of complacency.
